About This Role
The Controls Engineering Supervisor is a team leader of a selected number of Controls Engineers that will include local and remote team members. Their primary responsibility is managing and training of their direct employees, and verification of their work. They will be responsible for the mentoring of new hires as well as current Engineering staff. Participating in regular manpower meetings with Engineering Manager to distribute workload and discuss backlog and plan for future department needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design of complete building automation systems including the specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
- Creation, where necessary, of sequences of operation for the control of all building systems.
- Documentation of the BAS design (i.e. submittals) and revision control of the resultant documents.
- Site-specific configuration of the WebCTRL system (using SiteBuilder).
- Programming of control algorithms including those that include third-party integration (using Eikon).
- Development of graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems (using Eikon and ViewBuilder).
- Testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment.
- Functional testing (commissioning) of complex building systems such as chiller plants and large integrations.
- Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
- Adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
- Technical support during the selling process to ensure that sales representatives accurately address customer requirements and propose the best possible solutions.
- Mentorship and development of other Controls Engineers.
- Preform software and hardware quality control (QA/QC) reviews for all direct reports.
- Ensure deliverable dates from Project Managers are coordinated with Engineers and milestones are put in place to be sure to meet these requirements.
- Lead, document, and participate in yearly and semi yearly performance reviews for all of your Engineers.
- Clear communication and proactive expectation setting with manager and project teams both internal and external.
- Maintenance and advisement of customer and company design and programming standards including parts and practices.
- Adherence to safety standards. High regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
- Interviewing potential candidates for open Engineering positions.
- Adherence to ethics standards. Exemplifies the Carrier code of ethics.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of technical experience OR Associate Degree with 6+ years of technical experience OR High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of technical experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in an Engineering or Construction discipline.
- Experience in HVAC controls, Building Automation, or related industry.
- Proficient with primary functions of building automation system software and associated engineering tools, Automated Logic suites preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of complex Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals, add-ons, and services.
- Proficient with third-party communication protocols used in building automation, such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2, etc.
- Understanding with Enterprise IP networks and Microsoft Visio, or similar software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Visio (other CAD software acceptable).
- Proficient with written sequences of operations, diagrammatic depictions of systems.
- Able to translate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Able to provide direction and guidance to other team members and lead project teams.
- Well organized and able to balance multiple concurrent priorities by communicating and negotiating due dates and deliverables.
- Able to condense complex technical information into a comprehensive and clear set of design documents in a way that is easily understood and followed by project teams.
- Strong aptitude for problem solving even when troubleshooting remotely.
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Willingness and ability to travel 20% of average workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel when required.
- Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
