Det-Tronics is a $150M technologically innovative, projects-based global P&L protecting customers in many challenging environments with high end flame and gas detection products and systems. Det-Tronics is a part of the Global Fire Products business of Carrier and has a global footprint with manufacturing sites in the U.S. and sales presence in all key geographies.
This position is for a seasoned professional in Manufacturing Engineering, who works independently, designs simple assembly line and sequence of complex operations. Checks manufacturability of existing products, and implements manufacturing processes and changes to improve products and reduce costs
Key Responsibilities:
- The main responsibility will be to continually improve production equipment, tools, fixtures, and processes.
- Determine and implement production processes required to manufacture and test products designed by Engineering. Responsibility includes tooling, fixture design/build, assembly definition, process documentation, and resolution of all production problems on released products and new product development.
- Provide technical support to areas assigned to ensure product specifications are met at the optimal cost. Collaborate with Production and Quality to identify and resolve quality issues.
- Develop and document process maps, value stream maps, assembly process flows and work instructions, production control plans, and other standard work documents. Perform annual/bi-annual reviews of the above documentation for changes and updates.
- Work with the Test Engineering and Production teams to ensure a thorough, robust, preventative maintenance program is in place for the shop floor equipment.
- Establish, incorporate, and maintain labor standards and product routings.
- Responsible for reviewing and implement new documentation releases and/or product changes via ECO (Engineering Change Orders) within production. Clarity, accuracy, effectivity, and rework/scrap instructions shall be part of this review. Additional related items include product labeling content, tester configuration maintenance, and routing updates.
- Responsible for cost analysis, justification, project leadership, and implementation of capital equipment. Provide capital equipment forecasting for annual budgeting.
- Continually monitor existing products and assembly areas for effective methods of cost reduction/productivity improvements. This includes an ongoing review of standard hours and line metrics (product yields, productivity, output, capacity, etc.)
- Coordinate production of print verification units (for areas assigned) to establish processes and assure manufacturability. This includes checking and correcting documentation to ensure accurate assembly and reliable quality at minimum cost.
- Determine space requirements for various functions. Plan or improve production methods, including layout, production flow, tooling, and production equipment, material, fabrication, assembly methods, and manpower requirements.
- Responsible for special projects and assignments deemed necessary by the Manufacturing Engineering & Quality Assurance Manager. This could include the use of various tools for problem-solving and corrective action.
- Support and Continuous lead Improvement & Lean projects
- Support achievement of EH&S goals; complete monthly inspections and complete all assigned action items in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED with 10+ years of experience working in manufacturing engineering or an electro-mechanical assembly/test environment
- Associates Degree with 7+ years of experience working in manufacturing engineering or an electro-mechanical assembly/test environment
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience working in manufacturing engineering or an electro-mechanical assembly/test environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
- Experience in implementing new documentation releases and/or ECO and implementation of capital equipment.
- Experience in process mapping, value stream mapping, assembly process flows, routing, time study, cycle time reduction, floor layout, and production control plans.
- Experience with yield, process capability, workstation layout and ergonomic improvements.
- Preferred CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks experience, a plus.
- Experienced with computers using the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Experience designing and/or building test fixtures
- Six Sigma Training or Lean Manufacturing experience a plus
- Working knowledge of software (C, LabVIEW, or Visual Basic) and ability to make minor modifications is essential.
